Anthony Retires From NCA After 20+ Years Leading Sweets & Snacks Expo

Washington — Theresa Anthony, senior director of the Sweets & Snacks Expo for NCA, will retire at the end of September.

Anthony joined the NCA team in 2000, just before the then All Candy Expo made its historic move from Navy Pier to Lakeside Center at McCormick Place in 2001. That year, she introduced the show’s first Featured Products Showcase and the International Welcome Center.

By 2004, Anthony had led the Association’s efforts to double the number of exhibitors compared to the first show in 1997. As the expo outgrew Lakeside Center, Anthony facilitated its move to the then brand-new West Building of McCormick Place in 2007 and launched the earliest iteration of the Specialty Market.

As the first person that many exhibitors encounter at NCA, Anthony embraced the snack community and, with her help, the Association was ultimately able to transition the once candy-focused show into the Sweets & Snacks Expo in 2010. She was also instrumental in helping NCA navigate the cancellation of the event in 2020, the return to an in-person event in 2021 and a celebration of its 25-year history in 2022.

“It’s not an exaggeration to say the Sweets & Snacks Expo would not be where it is today without her leadership and, for that, we are exceptionally grateful,” says Elise Fennig, chief of staff & senior vice-president of operations at NCA.
