Fenton, MI — Iconic Beemans, Black Jack and Clove stick gum brands have been acquired from Mondelez International Inc. by Gerrit J. Verburg Co. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The products have not been on the market in at least four years, Gerrit Verburg, president of Gerrit J. Verburg Co., tells Candy & Snack TODAY. He notes the Black Jack brand is the oldest flavored gum brand on the market, originally launched in 1884. The products will be made using original flavors, the company adds.
“These brands are a true fit for our organization,” explains Verburg. “It is monumental for us as a company and it has been exciting to discover the pent-up demand for these products.”
He goes on to say the response from retailers has been overwhelming and orders for the product are outpacing early estimates.
According to the company, the products will begin shipping in November, with current customers getting priority until manufacturing is up to full capacity. All three brands will be available in five-stick packs carrying a SRP range of 79 to 99 cents. C&ST
