Minneapolis — Bühler AG has opened a Minneapolis Food Application Center (FAC), which will support and drive innovation among the supplier’s customers, start-ups, academia and industry partners, according to the company.

“The FAC is a place for learning how to create and process new products, new protein sources, and new ways to strengthen our food supply chains,” says Andy Sharpe, CEO of Bühler North America.

Activities at the FAC will focus on new methods for transforming pulses, peas, beans, oats, ancient grains, maize and other crops into new food “solutions,” including flours, snacks, extruded items and plant-based meat substitutes, according to the supplier.

“The FAC is a playground for the food industry, built to foster collaboration between food processing companies and other industry organizations, who, working side-by-side with Bühler’s processing experts, can test their business ideas, perfect them, and successfully bring them to market,” says Yannick Gaechter, FAC director.
