Chicago — Grubhub, Inc. is sharing data from 2022 to offer insights into consumer purchase habits leading into the week of Halloween.
- Late-night cravings: On Halloween night in 2022, hot dogs were the most ordered food item on Grubhub, with pepperoni pizza and cold Italian sandwiches following closely as the top three choices.
- Chocolate Lovers: Last Halloween, the most popular candies ordered on Grubhub in the U.S. were predominantly chocolate-based, including Reese’s, Twix, Kit Kat, and Snickers. However, Washington, D.C. and Boston broke away from the trend, evoking a ’90s nostalgia by choosing Gushers fruit-flavored snacks as their top candy choice.
- Candy Enthusiasts Coast to Coast: Grubhub customers in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston and Philly ordered the most candy to celebrate Halloween in 2022. While New Yorks opted for chewy treats like Nerds Spooky Rope and Caramel Cow Tales, Los Angeles had a taste for chocolate with a hint of peanuts with their top orders being Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and M&M’s peanut.
The company reports it is helping consumers stock up on candy for Halloween with a special promotion from October 26 to November 1. According to the company, Grubhub+ diners can redeem deals to stock up on candy, fuel pre-celebration meals or enjoy late-night treats.
The promos include $10 off 7-Eleven orders of more than $20 and $5 off Gopuff orders of more than $25 to stock up on candy.
The company is also offering deals for pre- and post-celebration meals and treats from Papa John’s, Insomnia Cookies and Burger King.
