Cashmere, WA — Liberty Orchards Co., the family-owned makers of Aplets & Cotlets, has been acquired by KDV USA, part of Russia’s KDV Group. According to a statement from the company, the new owners intend to keep production under the Liberty Orchards brand, producing Aplets & Cotlets, Orchard Bars and other items in the current Cashmere factory. Employees will retain their jobs and the company’s retail store and factory tours will remain open to the public, the company says.
Liberty Orchards announced in late 2019 its intention to sell the company, citing it was looking for way to take advantage of growth opportunities.
Founded in 1994, KDV Group is a multinational food and snack company with a broad range of products and production facilities and a well-established distribution network. This is its first foray into the American market. In addition to continuing to make Liberty Orchards’ line, the company will import more than 700 food products into the US.
“Our family is delighted that KDV plans to continue operations in Cashmere, making our unique candies and providing good jobs in our community,” says Greg Taylor, former company president.
KDV’s consumer analytics platform and distribution network will fuel growth opportunities within the Liberty Orchards business and across KDV’s portfolio, the company says. In addition, the acquisition gives Liberty Orchards access to resources, research and development, and mass-scale distribution experience.
“We are excited to welcome Liberty Orchards to the KDV family, to meld fresh ideas with long-standing traditions, and to continue making products loved by so many Americans,” says Denis Shtengelov, KDV Group CEO.
