Gerrit J. Verburg Co. is expanding its Gerrit’s Satellite Wafers line with Strawberry Satellite Wafers, the fourth variety in the lineup. The new products feature extra crunchy shells filled with sour strawberry powder.
The red, saucer-shaped wafers are made in Belgium using edible cornstarch shells. The company says the launch taps the “newstalgia” trend by putting a new spin on a confection that has been available in the U.S. since the 1950s.
“This is more than a traditional line extension,” says Gerrit Verburg, president of Gerrit J. Verburg Co. “The updated wafer shell and new sour powder formula are designed to delight loyal Satellite Wafers fans while also appealing to a new generation of consumers, including Gen Z and Gen Alpha.”
Strawberry joins original Satellite Wafers filled with colorful sweet candy beads; Sour Satellite Wafers with tangy sour powder; and Blue Raspberry Satellite Wafers with Tongue Tattoos, featuring blue raspberry fizzy sour powder and edible tongue tattoos in four shapes.
The Strawberry Satellite Wafers are gluten-, nut-, and GMO-free. The 0.88-ounce peg bags contain approximately 21 pieces and 90 calories per bag and have an SRP of $2.99.
