Union, NJ — Smarties Candy Co. recently donated $25,000 to classrooms in need through DonorsChoose as part of its “Smarties Think” initiative. These matching funds provided books and reading materials to more than 19,000 students in 149 public schools, according to the company.
“Our company’s late founder, Edward Dee, named his candy ‘Smarties’ to encourage students to be smart. It is in his honor that we continue to support public school classrooms in need of reading and literacy supplies,” says Co-President Jessica Dee Sawyer.
“Providing educational supplies to keep kids learning is vital,” says Shantaa Foster, community partnerships manager at DonorsChoose. “We are delighted to be partnering with Smarties again to support teachers across the country with their classroom requests so they can best support their students.”
The “Smarties Think” initiative was launched in 2013 to further the company’s mission to help classrooms in need. Since 2013, the company has donated $200,000 through DonorsChoose.
