Union, NJ — Smarties Candy Co. recently donated $25,000 of matching funds to classrooms in need as a continuation of its Smarties Think initiative. The contribution funded books and reading materials for 152 classrooms in 139 public schools through the nonprofit DonorsChoose.
“We are honored to uplift classrooms in need of vital reading supplies. The Smarties Think initiative continues the vision of our company’s founder, Edward Dee, who named his candy ‘Smarties’ to encourage people to be smart,” says Co-President Sarah Dee.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Smarties again this year to support public school teachers and students,” adds Shantaa Foster, community partnerships manager at DonorsChoose. “Their contribution continues to inspire a love of learning and leadership as students engage in incredible learning experiences across the country.”
The company says the Smarties Think initiative was launched in 2013 to further its founder’s mission to help classrooms in need, and has donated $225,000 to date through DonorsChoose.
