Sweets & Snacks Expo Zooms Into Indianapolis

We’re at the starting line of the 2024 Sweets & Snacks Expo. Read on for a special message from John Downs, President & CEO of the National Confectioners Association – the host organization for the show.

Indiana Convention Center Sweets & Snacks Expo has always been big — and this year, the show is bigger and bolder than it has ever been. We put the pedal to the metal for the 2024 show: expanding educational offerings, increasing the size of the show floor, and improving networking opportunities.

We’re starting a new chapter together in this first year of partnership with the City of Indianapolis. This collaboration with Indy is an important investment that will allow the show to continue to grow to new heights in the future. With the support of our Sweets & Snacks community and partners at Visit Indy — along with the Governor of Indiana, the Mayor of Indianapolis, and many others — we’re planting roots in a city on the rise. Indy is unquestionably the right city to meet the demands for our show and our community, having hosted multiple top-tier events successfully, and Sweets & Snacks is proud to join the ranks of these world-class events.

Following 25 successful years in Chicago, this bold move to Indianapolis is already turning out to be successful. The 2024 Sweets & Snacks Expo will break show records, with 1,000 exhibitors setting up shop across more than 250,000 square feet of show floor.

Innovation has always been at the heart of the confectionery and snack categories, with brands and companies providing new products for consumers and building on their classic and nostalgic offerings. To see this in action, look no further than the Most Innovative New Product Awards, showcasing groundbreaking new concepts in the candy and snack categories. This year, the show continues its long history as a launchpad for remarkable innovations — and there is no better place for retailers to find the trends that will delight consumers.

There are very clear signs that consumers are enthusiastic about the confectionery and snack categories. Confectionery sales hit a record $48 billion in 2023. More than 98% of consumers report that they purchased chocolate, candy, gum, and mints in 2023 as they embrace treats to enhance and elevate special occasions. Snacks are also a popular, powerhouse category, with a recent report showing that nearly 90 percent of people in the U.S. participate in snacking at least once a day.

But it’s not just about the strong performance of these unique categories or what happens within the walls of the Indiana Convention Center — it’s also how show attendees will impact the rest of the city. Overall, our community of more than 16,000 people will generate an estimated economic impact of $12.3 million on the City of Indianapolis.

Hoosier hospitality was on full display when Sweets & Snacks Expo temporarily relocated to Indianapolis in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Everyone involved in the show at that time — from attendees to show management — recognized that the spirit of the city perfectly matched our vision for the next generation of Sweets & Snacks. We are excited to join you in seeing it come to life — welcome (back) to Indianapolis. C&ST
